Mulled Wine & Mince Pie Stall, Sunday 27th November

1st Emmbrook Scout Group raised £794 from selling 700 cups of Mulled Wine.  This is a great fund-raising result.  A massive thank you to all the parents and supporters that helped make the day such a success.

Autumn Newsletter

The Autumn Newsletter has been published.  Please down load a copy  and enjoy the read.  The newsletter contains an update on the Summer BBQ and new fundraising campaigns that do not cost you a penny extra!

* * URGENT * * Cub & Scout sections need Leader/Adult support

The Cub & Scout sections are each loosing a Leader as they move out of the area.  This is cruch time for the cubs and Scouts.  The remaining Leaders cannot now physically support the exciting programme being offered.  We need more parental support to help plan, run and supervise our children.  Without active Adult participation the adventure and excitement our children are currently experiencing will have to be scaled back.

In November a Spring Term Planning Evening will be held to work out the activities that can be run witht he Adult support we have.  Please contact Martin Wilson, Group Scout Leader, at martinwilson@btinternet.com so that you can be invited to the planning event.

GREX Meeting, Wednesday, 14th December

The Group Executive Meeting (GREX) will take place at 8pm at the Dob & Duck in Emmbrook.  GREX is a group of parents and supporters that runs the administrative and fund-raising activities for the Group.  Any new parents or supporters are welcome to join.  Please contact any Leader for more information.

Donate your books to BOOKBRIDGE

1st Emmbrook Scout Group are asking you to bring in old books that you don’t want any more.  We would particularly like fiction or non-fiction English language books, such as picture, children’s and young adult’s books that are easy to read. The more pictures a book has and the simpler it is the better. We would also really like teaching materials (especially pictures, CDs and DVDs), dictionaries, atlases, and encyclopaedias. It doesn‘t matter how used the books are - as long as they are in a usable condition. If it is worn round the edges - absolutely fine, just avoid books with pages missing, pages drawn over, etc.

We will be passing these books onto BOOKBRIDGE.  BOOKBRIDGE was formed from a collaboration of German and Mongolian Scouts.  In the last year and a half, BOOKBRIDGE has established four teaching libraries in Mongolia and this year they are aiming to establish six more libraries in Mongolia and Cambodia. To do this they need to collect 90,000 books!  They teach English to students at these centres, as learning English vastly improves people’s opportunities to gain access to employment and therefore improve their quality of life.

This is a really good way for all Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to keep part of their promise - to help other people. And it is a great way to clear out all that stuff you meant to get rid of before! You should see the pile I’ve got already!

I really hope that we can collect the most books in the District – let’s go for it!  Please bring books to meetings between now and 3rd July.  There will be boxes there to put them in.

1st Emmbrook Scout Group needs to raise £4,000 per year to operate.

1st Emmbrook Scout Group comprises 3 sections, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.  Subscription rates are currently £30.00 per term.  Out of these subs £12.50 is used to fund section activities, £13.09 is paid as capitation fees to the Scout Association and £4.41 contributes to the running costs of the Group.

The Group needs to raise £4,000 per year to maintain & insure the Headquarters, buy new equipment and cover transport costs.  Subs only cover 9% of these costs.  The majority of the Groups income comes from Gift Aid declarations and Fund-Raising.  Please download the the summary which shows where Group income comes from and how it is spent.

The Group is managed by the Group Executive Committee, known as GREX.  GREX is run by Parents and Supporters and not Section Leaders.  If you would like to take part in the management of the Group or help with fund-raising please contact one of the Section Leaders who will put you in touch with a member of GREX.  GREX meets only 11 times a year and without your active support the Sections could not run.

1st Emmbrook Scout Group runs 4 main fund-raising activities each year:  

•* Winter Carnival Mulled Wine & Mince Pies

•* Spring Cycle Race Drink Stop

•* Summer BBQ

•* Autumn Race Night 

The Group needs parental support at these events to ensure we raise sufficient funds each year.

Scout HQ Cleaning Rota 2010 - 2011

All Parents are required to assist in the cleaning rota for the Scout HQ.  Please follow the guidelines and rota to ensure that the Scout HQ remains a clean place for the Beaver, Cub and Scout meetings.
